Reforming Individual Insurance Coverage
Individual Health Insurance Market Reform is about protecting
consumers and giving Michigan residents the security of knowing
they can get health insurance coverage when they need it.
Unfortunately, current regulations make it difficult for
people to purchase health insurance on their own, and this must
be changed. For example, commercial insurers can deny coverage
for any reason at the time of application. Also, there are no
limits on how high they can raise rates if the personŐs medical
condition worsens during the coverage period. Taking the healthy
and rejecting the sick are allowed in Michigan.
We believe that no one should be penalized for using their
health insurance benefits when they are ill or injured. If you
have had difficulty getting or keeping health insurance
coverage, we want to hear your story.
